Ok where do I start, My Mini is 1330 and It has a single carb with k&N on it. My car also has a bonnet scope which might be why the problem has occured. Everytime I take the car out in a cold morning it runs like C**p. It stutters really bad untill you drive around for a good 10mins then it stops. But the other day when I was driving home from work it didnt get better at all it got worse, to the point where it wouldnt even move it was just miss firing. It was also raining during the day so could it be water that got into the carb? I got towed to the garage by a mate and took out all the sparks, they were like completly black. After a good clean the car would run good enough to get home but it is still running really bad with constant missing (whats the problem?) The coil on the car mite even be the standard 850 coil, could this also be a factor? Please if anyone could help me that would be great!!!

Thanks Heaps

Well, normally if someone is having difficulties with misfires in damp conditions I'd say to check the distributor cap and make sure that isn't getting damp/condensated.

If you suspect that there is a lot of water getting under the bonnet into the carb area, I'd also do something about sealing that.

take the distributer cap off in the morning and see if
it has condensation in it,spray the inside with WD or
similar moisture dispersal spray, change the disi cap if it is
old just incase it is cracked. also spray the leads they may be
stray arcing causing a miss fire, i'd change the plugs and condeser
aswell, best to change things in turn then you will know what
the problem was.

is your inlet manifold water heated ?? if not you could be getting slight
carb icing.

sounds like it needs a good proper service... and is running too rich also, hence the sooted up plugs. Head's probably coked up too.

So it will have nothing at all to do with the old coil? I took it into the garage for a good service like a month ago. They didnt change the leads or sparks tho...Is this what will be required as far as a service goes?

It sounds like the coil breaking down, only way to see is to change it or do the test in the haynes book.

Check your points as well. I had a similar problem to you.

Turned out to just be points and condensor.
