Hi
I've just put in a 1293 engine into my mini, after running it on tickover for 15 - 20 mins to adjust timing, carb etc it was showing it was very very hot on the temp gauge so as a precaution we turned it off and could hear the water bubbling, after it had cooled down took for a test drive again only 10 - 15 mins and it was the same temp again.. I have checked the fans the right way, the thermostat didnt seem to be faulty and it has a new water pump,
Has anyone got any ideas???

Are you using a standard rad? It can literaly only just cope with a standard 1275.
Having said that it shouldn't be anywhere near boiling until it's well up on the temperature gauge because it's a pressurised system so bubbling is a bad sign. How old is the rad cap? This is what sets the system pressure.

If it's bubbling away check the stat's not stuck or sticking. Pop the thermostat housing off and check the stat works works properly (should be around 88 it pops fully open). Or if you got a slightly batted old stat kicking about then remove the middle bit of the old stat and use that. It's like having the stat fully open all the time. ONLY use it to test for a while as it will give sorta the same flow as having a stat but it will always be open.
