Loads of Revs and no torque?.... perhaps you missed the bit about the 16V head

I don't know enough about this so sorry i can't help Gav. I'm gonna watch this thread though because it sounds quite interesting.

and don't forget my unhealthy nitrous addiction..... may even consider supercharger too.... though looking at what all this would cost, i may just have to go for a bike engine or vtec!!!!!
Basically, i don't have the room for another car at the moment... well atleast not one in bits!!!! bit i do have room for subframes and engines in the shed...
i lover the simplicity of the a-series but buy the time i build the top half, it's gonna take one hell of a gearbox to cope with the power which would probably double the budget!!!!!

Either finding a "good" 1071 S crank, or getting one made from scratch...
Also because of the shorter stroke, you need a block which actually has enough metal on the top to be machined off, however, if you do go forced induction, this may help....
The torque vs power issue is one for debate.... I've heard of 1071's and 970's getting the revs well up past 10k
when you think about it, you don't see many F1 cars with a long stroke

And you don't see many A series revving to 18,000rpm either.

Of course not but it's hardly like Gavs aiming to get 18,000rpm from an Aseries (A+) (Gav, reassure me here

He's not trying to get 800bhp either, but he still used the F1 argument!!!!!

Go for it Gav, but it will cost a fortune. You can't make a short stroke with a standard crank so you'll need to find a good old 970 or 1070 crank or get a billet one made as genuine forged units are NLA (the forging tools are missing so they can't be made any more).
I've been thinking about building a short stroke with a 73mm overbore (gives you somewhere left to go if it wears out). It'll be quite good I reckon.

maybe i'll start investigating my other options..... though i don't want an engine in the rear!!!
