Hey All.

So, ive got a 1991 mini.

im trying to fit some hi-los to the front of the vehicle. I had a cone compresor with a fine thread ( I think this is imperial). I removed the top bolt and managed to start it threading into the thread in the cone. However, after it being compressed for a short while a there was a loud bank and the cone became uncompressed, revealing that the thread on the tool was stripped!.

after speaking to a few people at stoneleigh, i might have been using the wrong threaded compressor, and I have now purchased a metric one. I cannot get this to thread into the cone....

Can anybody provide me a definitive answer as to which thread my year mini will have (it makes sense for it to be metric)

secondly, any advice on what I can do to start the compressor threading, or alteratively fit them without a compressor?

any help would be much appreciated.

ive tried greasing the thread of the compressor, and being very gentle but IT JUST WONT THREAD.

Most probalby the thread in the cones are damaged too.
If you are talking about compressing the old cones that are still in your subframe, dont bother, remove the suspension top arm, you should be able to take out the cones without compressing them if they are collapsed enough (mine were). You will have to remove the top arm anyway to take out and fit the new cones in.

Then for the new cones, no prob, they will be metric and the thread in good shape.
