evening all, after a year off the road i tried to start madam up, but i had no joy.
am running an A plus 1275 engine with an electronic pointsless dizzy. everything is the same from when the car last run: dizzy, engine and coil. and she ran sweet as.

there was no spark at the spark plug, and no spark from the coil HT lead.
the dizzy is wired thus:
pink(red) and white wire from the loom to the positive side of the coil: 12volts present tested from connector to coil, and circuit complete
green wire from amplifier to positive side of coil, 12 volts present, tested from connector to the coil, circuit incomplete
black wire from amplifier to negative side of the coil, 12 volts present tested as above. circuit incomplete.
wire to rev counter to positive side, 12 volts present and circuit complete.
there is another wire from the amplifier that wasn't connected last time the engine was runnning
all tested with ignition on but not with the starter cranking.

new leads fitted along with new rotor arm and new dizzy cap, and new plugs.

your help and advice would be appreciated, oh wise ones!!!!!

problem may be the lack of 12v at the coil the pink wire only gives 9v at the coil because its a resistor wire for points.

Might be way of mark here but, I thought the negative wire from the electronic distributor was black & white, also the tachometer wire needs to go to the negative side not the positive side. Someone who actually knows will be along in a minute to correct me, but hopefully you have not furbar'd your distributor.

If you have a spare use that one to see if it makes a difference, but think you will find that tacho goes on negative side as it needs to see the pulses. If you put it on th epositive side you are effectively shorting the dizzy out, maybe hence no spark.

right, just spent another couple of hours from the car, checked the feed from the fuse box again, and it was 12V though when cranking was 6 V. put a new wire in and with a fresh battery i got 9ishV but still no spark, put the circuit tester between the coil ht lead and ground and cranked the engine...not a sausage volt wise.

lol, the car is a 71 gt, the engine is an 89 A plus 1275. wiring loom from the 71 gt is in there, modified for the starter mounted solenoid.

In that car the tacho runs the ignition system. The tacho wire should indeed be fitted to the coil positive and it should be white/green. There shouldn't be any pink wires in the ignition system of this car and there shouldn't be any need to connect anything else to the coil apart from the dizzy, the module and the supply wire from the tacho.

Weren't you saying that you were having trouble with the instruments? That is the drawback of this type of tacho, when the tacho or the instrument PCB goes sideways it takes the ignition out with it. Try temporarily disconnecting the tacho altogether and just supplying the coil with 12v from the fusebox ignition live terminals. Of course if the tacho has failed it could have taken the ignition module out with it.
