Hi guys. I've got a bolt stuck fast through the top steering arm on one of my hubs. The hub is off the car, I've knocked the locktabs down, and I've got one of the bolts out. But this one has snapped a spanner, and is now rounded off. It's evading releasing fluid, blowtorch and a good grip on the old moles.

Any other suggestions?

I would suggest filing some more 'flats' on the bolt head and having another go with a larger (as in longer) spanner. Or you could drill down into them and attempt to extract the remnants with an easy out bolt extractor but i have never had any joy with this

What he said ^^ but don't gind too much because you could end up shearing the head off all together.

Personaly I would try welding a flat tab of metal on the end of it and puting a good adjustable spanner around that and winding it off.

or weld a nut to it.... The heat from the weld should also help with the release of the stub....

turbo socket from snap or machine mart has nice teeth that bite into the bolt/nut

surely if you weld a nut on the stud will expand making it harder to remove?

The hole will also expand and any mating surface. This method has worked for 100s of years.

Yeah, in theory it shouldn't work, but it does.

Yeah, in theory it shouldn't work, but it does.

The process of expanding and contracting is often enough to free up the corrosion that has locked the nut on, a blow torch probably doesn't get it hot enough.

I was always told to heat the area around stiff bolts? but you are probably right the heat would help either way :withstupid:

Cheer for all the replies guys. Have still had no success, so think I will have to have a go at welding a nut on (despite my pitiful welding skills). Thanks all.

Sorry to hear you are not having fun... I presume this is all of the Fiesta conversion, Keep at it it will be good in the end. a good set of six sided sockets are good. should stop you rounding any more off...
