ok. i need to wire up my centre speedo.

i know i need a different cable, its the electrics that im pondering over.

it isnt a simple plug in job. i knew that before i decided to get one, but is an original feature that was lost when somone re-shelled the car into a later shell.

anyway...

should i cut off the connecting blocks and simply match the wires up with bullet conectors, or is there a better way of doing it? and i dont want a whole new loom....

thanks,
Ed

You speaking about the Designer? It would never have been an original feature on an F reg car....even if it was re-shelled into a later shell.

I think places like Mini Spares etc sell a special 'loom' to do the conversion.

as above you can buy a converter loom so its a simple plug in job... Autosparks make the looms and you can go either way...center bin to offset or offset to center bin

Oh yeah, one of those 'reshelled into a later car with all the parts and features from the later car and the late wiring loom but conveniently a tax exempt chassis plate' type conversions. When was this done exactly? Re-shelling into a used shell is illegal now and has been for a while for this very reason. It's a ringer.

Having got that off my chest (sorry I had to say it, this really winds me up), yes you need the converter loom. Well that's the simplest way to do it at least. The conversion needs to be spliced into the loom having chopped off the current instrument connector and then just hooked up to the binnacle as the original loom would have been.

im sorry, i bought the car like that, i personaly didnt re shell it. i would have liked to keep the original bits, so thats why i have bought the speedo, mk2 lights etc.
i know its illegal and the shell could be any year, one of the first line of sight minis, not everyone knows what happens to their mini, some are mysterys, like mine. which was a rally car at some stage, maybe it crashed and they re-shelled it, at the time it wasnt illegal...? i dont know, do you? personally i think there was no need for that comment.

thankyou to those who helped.

Phone No is 0115 949 7211 and Debbie Johnson is who you will probably speak to!
Sorry I couldn't get any more info for you but the started asking for body numbers and the like so I whnt as far as I could for ya.
