My 98 coopers' been off the road since oct 05 and to my amazement when i put a new battery an oil in at the wk end she fired up first time, purring like a good un! :withstupid:
However as she's bin layed up the bodyworks not great an there is rust under headlamp seams, under windscreen, a patch in drivers wing and both a panels are shot. Going to replace both a panels but are the wings and scuttle salvageable or would a complete new front end be best? I figured go the new front end option but my mate reckons this is overkill. Anyone got any ideas on cost for this kind of job? I presume you get what you pay for though?
Currently got an RC40 on but nver got round to changing filter, anyone got any opinions about a K and N replacement filter versus cone induction kit?

Cheers all

I'll take the K&N question,

On smaller engines (850-998-1000cc) the elbow on the carb is a restrictions. So a cone is prefrable. On larger engines (1275 and up) the elbow is larger and less of a restriction so a replacement is just about as good. This is so long as you put some holes in the air box 1st. Cone filter also have a tendency to add lots of noise.

well no one can answer your question about rust until they see how bad it is. my advice would be replace all rusty parts unless you want to be there again soon.
