Was on a mini run easter monday. We stopped for an hour or so, on starting back up again i tried to turn the radio on, however all i got was bass an the front speakers wernt working. looked under the bonnet to find fuse number one had blown (of four). The RCA leads to the front speakers had also come out of the back of the headunit (surely this couldnt have caused a fuse to blow???) Turned on my lights and smoke started coming out of the dash, blew the fuse again....
Next day i comb the wiring expecting to find some wires burnt out or more fuses gone...there are none, i take pretty much everything off and apart hoping to find a simple problem....what i do find is the the smoke is coming from the flasher switch (on the stalk) Whenever i flick the headlamp flasher the contacts spark and smoke, although nowhere near as much as the first time it happened. I have replaced the fuse and everything else works except the flasher. And i imagine if i do attempt to use it, the fuse will just blow again....
So, could a faulty flasher relay cause this problem? (its all i can think of) has anyone else had a similar thing happen? and is there anyway to test the relay?
