Hi

my mini's engine is covered in dripping oil, i couldnt see where it is coming from, it still runs and doesnt smoke but does smell abit after being run (not surprising). i think the leak must be quite high up due to the top of the engine covered aswell.

Any help would be appreciated ill try to get some pics sorted maybe tomo in the light.

thanks phil.

If it's quite a high leak, then chances are that the rocker cover seal has broken up. Clean the engine, then run it and watch for the leak.

10,000 pounds says it's the cork rocker cover gasket!

They are a few pence from MSC ;)

It's more than likely the rocker cover gasket. However, its not coming up through the dip-stick hole is it? A-series may not do it but other British Leyland lumps, like the 2.25 Land Rover engines, have a tendancy to loss all control of fluids when they start to get old and grumpy.

Just think of it as a bonus, your bulkhead is now rust-proofed!

To be honest that shows a dirty engine ;)... however you can see how compressed the cork gasket is, so i would say it may well be the cause of your mini's little 'accidents' lol. ;)
