this is the gearbox from my race car, came out of the top corner, started accelerating down the straight and then BANG, loss of drive

took it apart tuesday, and its clear what the problem was !

I've never seen anything like this before,

a couple of balls and cage missing from this bearing, could of been a possibility that it shot them out and took the gears out?

just some of the stuff from the bottom of the box (wheres the tab from? it doesnt look like its been hit from the gears)

Somebody dump it into 2nd a little too quickly ???

Not running a turbo are you ?

I have a laygear which looks pretty much the same, done in a turbo, which the concluded cause was being in 4th on boost, and nocking it down to third a little too quickly... bye-bye gears...

The tab looks like the one used to lock the bolts on the oil feed blanking plate on the back of the gearbox or the old oil strainer (as there's a cpu fitted) , but have not got a guage to scale so can't tell.

Hi John,

I do give it a little too much death into second, sometimes so it jolts.. not very clever I know but I do like to get away quickly! lol Although once the new box is in I will be a little smoother into 2nd!

Its only a Prod A (similar to class 1), so pretty much standard 998 (+60, skimmed head etc) cant be much more then 50ish bhp.

Thanks
Sam
