Is it possible to fit harnesses so that the back seats can still be used? - Or can they be fitted and removed when not in use (track)

you can bolt the harness straight down behind the front seat just allow fot the chair to move..i only found that if you move the seat forward or back you need to adjust the harness straps

No, you cannot. That is a very dangerous place to bolt harnesses into. The angle is far too steep if the straps drop down to the floor behind the drivers seat and if the harness was ever tested in a real collision the seat would collapse or the mounting would fail and you would get injured. The closest you can safely bolt the shoulder straps of a harness behind the Mini front seats is the base of the rear seat, pretty much where the rear seatbelt mounts are. All this regarding pull angles is covered in the mounting instructions provided with any harness or seatbelt. Almost as dangerous is mounting to the parcel shelf without seriously reinforcing it. Jimmy if you have harnesses fitted like this I urge you to change the layout.

Fitting harnesses in a manner that they can be easily removed for everyday use is simple. You need to use harness mounting D ring bolts instead of conventional bolts as the fittings for the rear seatbelt lap strap. Then get a harness which fits with snap hooks. When yo go racing pull out the rear seat (you won't need it anyway) and clip in your harness. When on the road remove the harness and put the seat back. You must never use the rear seatbelt and harness at the same time though if they are secured to the same mounting but if this is only for racing that won't be a problem. All this assumes you are in a race series where hook fitted harnesses are permitted though, maybe they aren't.

Thanks,

It's only for the odd track day - now someone said to me at work that most track days don't require harnesses only helmets?

Road Runner, your link only seems to work if you are logged in to the British Mini Club, so I found a couple of diagrams from Securon about harness mounting to stick up here.

This shows harness strap positioning:

This shows what I mean for a removeable harness clip point on the rear seat:

Doing this will break your back in a collision.

They would not be able to get in there in any case the seats are fixed to the floor so can't get in the back (not that I beleve in takeing more than one in the car)but I did not know about that. Where does it say that? Used to go in the back of my mate who had an FIA cage though mine is only a road one.
