When I click the headlight switch to it's first (middle)position I get the drivers side headlamp on as a sidelight (dim) but nothing on the passenger side at all? Is this normal and OK for MOT? On an old Merc I used to have you could choose to have one side or the other as sidelights.
So, should it be just the drivers side or have I got a faulty bulb? If so will it fail on MOT?
Thanks

Both side lights should be on, but due to the type of bulb they are, the contacts often get a bit corroded and need a little rub with some emery cloth to make the contact clean.
The lights on the Mercedes were parking lights. The sidelights work as normal, but you can choose to leave one or other side and tail light on so that if you park on the side of the road in the dark, your car can be soon. They used to do this on Vauxhalls too, don't know if the new models have it though.
Both sidelights working is very much part of the MOT and will be an immediate fail if they are not both working
Hope that helps
