Hi just drove my van, and I pressed on the accelerator pedal and i heard a snap, the pedal went to the floor, and stayed there, I looked under the bonnet at where the accel cable is and it had come out of that lil hole thing and the cable was freyed, so i drove home on choke, and then when i had the tools to reattatch it and test, the throttle is hard to push down and when driving its jerky and i dont think i can get full travel on the cam on the side of the carburettor, i was wondering why did the throttle cable come off and why is it different now, has it snapped and is shorter so thats why it isnt going right? should i buy a new cable and see if that fixes it?

any help much appreciated, thanks

Charlie

Just buy a new one. Cost £3-5 from local shop.

Get the extra long one, the regular type can be a pain to get working. I got one and ended up buying the long one afterwards because I couldn't get it to work smoothly - I could only ascertain that the angle of the cable in the engine bay before going through the body was too steep due to the tightness of the bend.

I freaked out when I got my standard one. Spent 10mins figuring out if it was the right length. They seem silly short.

cheers I will order that as soon as poss. Any tips on that fiddly bolt with two bits at top and the hole in it (where the cable attatches to the card throttle cam) as i find it really hard to get access to tighten the nut/get the cable through the hole!! its so fiddly...

cheers, Charlie

Are you on about the carb end? From memory you should be able to poke the cable through and hold it, and then use an open ended spanner on one side and a socket on the other...

Good luck!

If the cable isn't, then solder the end 1st.

Also please say your ordering from a shop. I do like mini spares and all but local shops for general parts as much cheaper and quicker.

Aye, was going to mention that. It's the same as bike gear shift cable.
