Hi,

I have a cam which came out of a mini engine attached to an automatic gearbox,
I do not know what size the engine is although possibly its a 998cc but i do not know what year. I want to sell the cam as it is of no use to me but need to know what it is first, below should be some images if i get it right so can anyone help identify it.

Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks
Rich (BLMini)

Ps, if you copy and paste the url into the address bar the pictures work, but may not work if you just click them, no idea why, sorry.

Unless it's a 'special' cam in some way - it's worth about 3P !!

How is anyone supposed to ID a cam from a photo?

If this is the cam that was in the engine when it was built I don't think it's any use to anyone. I believe (but I may be wrong) that the standard auto engine had a cam unique to the auto which is pretty gutless. I suppose someone overhauling a standard auto might want it.

I have just taken a cam out of mine with no markings...do all aftermarket (performance) cams have some kind of markings? I wouldn't doubt it was a standard cam but the RR guy (who blew a piston ring!!) said it went well and thought it had a 'cam' in it..

If it's a kent or a piper they tend to have a number stamped on the end where the pully goes.

the "ridged" band inbetween the 2 lobes that are between the fuel pump lobe and the dizzy drive screw may mean something as MG metro cams have 2 of these and that is the way to id them

That is a standard profile cam and worthless other than being used as an exchange item when buying an profiled cam from any of the big names

only way to really know is to profile the cam and get the figures...

standard cams arent 'desired' so worth next to nowt...

and yes - kent / piper do stamp numbers on the end of their cams... as do certain type of people wanting to make a standard cam sell :s (me a cynic??)

some of the later A+ cams had bands or grooves in them.

the one in the pic above has the band between lobes 5&6 which means its a 998 A+ cam or 'economy' 1275 cam. nothing special or Auto specific...

hth,
Dave
