hi all, my mini went to garage the other week, and the bloke said that it was the ECU that was knackard.

I got hold of an ECU and i have been told that i will need to get the ecu 'coded' with the alarm sytem for it to work. well i have plugged it in without getting it 'coded' and i can still disable the imobiliser and get the engine to turn.

but still no start?

is this because i need to get the ecu coded? but would the engine still be turning if the ecu wasn't 'coded'?

i think the immobilizer is working because you can usually turn the engine over anyway. it sounds like the ecu and the immobilzer are not 'talking' to each other.
it will need to be coded, usually by a rover dealer.

When you don't iniciate the imobiliser button, nothing happens... i wonder if it would be worth trying to disconnect the ecu, then turning it??

But i think i have done that in the past, and it did 'turn over'..

I just don't want to fork out another shed load of money to get it coded, and for it not to be the problem!!

ghr,.,. damn injections, think i mite return it to standard and sell it for a 1380 turbo road rocket.

It is the problem. The ECU won't start the engine until the alarm tells it that it is okay to do so, and if the two don't recognise each other they don't swap the start code. The ECU probably needs to know the code for each injector as well (it does on the late Land Rover engines). The starter motor is just a motor.
You may have trouble at the Rover dealer since you have tried to start it without coding as it might have registered a 'possible stolen' in the fault log, so take the receipt for the ECU with you.

okies, well i am going to get up super early tomorrow and try and get it booked in tomorrow morning.

Will i need to take the whole car down, or do i just need to take the ecu/alarm unit?

Rich

ps, when i click the ignition on, i can hear the pump/injectors doing their pre-inject thingy!
