Hi,

Just had the gearbox replaced... runs sweet. Only problem is the speedo doesn't work anymore. So I tried re-plugging it into the back of the speedo gauge, but nothing. Jacked up the car, slipped into first gear, had a look at the cable and it wasn't turning. So I got under... and removed the other end of the cable:

Is this the problem? I thought the cable should look the same both sides or something? Does the split cause any difference aswell? (guess its not healthy!)

Any help would be great!

I could (and proabably am) be wrongm but i think that end should be a square cross section, which slots into the gear in the box.. so I think a new cable could help... maybe theres some photos on minispares.com or something?

That's what I was thinking... so that the cable had something substantial to turn to then transfer the speed to the speedo! >_<

The cable should have a square end as jimmay said. Hopefully a new cable will sort the problem as long as theres not anything wedged in there still >_<

Would it be wedged in tight? I can't see down there but it feels like a hole... but that might be the other end of the cable I took out!?

Anyone know the best place to buy a speedo cable. The ones' I have bought before seem to have a flattened end and not the square end and I am having real problems with getting it to work.

I spend the best part of a day sorting it and was really happy I finally had only for it to stop working a week later....

I want to be sure to buy one that will fit straight into the gearbox end WITH a square end!
