Hello
Ive spent about 10 hours now trying to get my engine back into the car and bolted in. Ive attached the engine mounts to the engine but I can get one lined up but the other is too high by about 6mm. Ive had the sub frame powder coated so thought the thickness of that might affect it, after ages getting it off it didnt make any difference.
Ive measured the old engine mounts and the new and there is .18mm difference which isnt going to have any effect.
My only option I think is to take the engine back out again and the lcb off which is a ruddy nightmare to get on and bray stink out of the sub frame mounting point with a rubber hammer and a peice of wood!!!
Please can someone help?
cheers Simon

Have you done up all the bolts completly? if so loosen all the other bolts and then try it. May help or I may be barking up the wrong tree...

But try it out, once its in, tighten it all up

yeah already tried standing on it and wiggling but its wedged solid.
other mounts were just bolted though and a few turns on the nut, nowhere near tight.

Do what miniboo said, just for the reason I now have the picture of a giant badger jumping up and down on an engine!

I had a similar problem. In the end we found it easier to unbolt the bottom rad/engine mount bolt that to the subframe then reattach it once it was all in place. Either way it took lots of swearing and wiggleing >_<

Make sure the two long bolts that hold the rad end mounting bracket to the gearbox are loose as this will give you some more play. Keep trying...it will go !

its a right pain sometimes. I trapped my hand putting my engine in.

I put a rope around the clutch/bell housing and lifted it with the crane (left the engine mount bolts loose), once it took the weight, i was able to get the other side in line.

I had this problem with mine after I bought quickfit mounts,is that what you bought
if so the genuine ones are supposed to be better for this, they allow the engine to sit
down more and line up with the bolts.

Wow cheers for all the replies, common theme seems to be swearing and wiggling, I assure you there was plenty of that. The rad end two long bolts were loosened off to try and give it some more room but didnt seem to help.
The mounts are standard ones not quick release but are the same size as the old ones.
I think the only way is to try and persuade the part of the subframe the mount sits on with a block of wood and a rubber mallet.
If that doesnt work there will be a fire damaged phoenix for sale as im in the mood to set it on fire if it doesnt work.

No one has asked if you have tightened up the bolts on the mount you have lined up? If so then slacken them off a bit (don't remove them) Then attach your engine crane to that end and lift it a little. This will allow the other side to slip down enough for you to locate the bolts on that mount! once all bolts are in then you can tighten them up! :)
