Have been looking on the search but canny find it. When tiniting my windows do I do both inside and out or just inside or just outside. My missus seams to think that you only tint the inside and not the out and I think if anything you tint the outside and not the in. PHEW!!!! <------- lies down and gasps for air :)

just the inside. we do tints at work and i would always suggest getin it proffesionally done, the result is sooooo much better. but if you are going to do it yourself then here are some tips:

1. totally clean the class!
a.spray it with glass cleaner and then use a stanley blade of similar to scrape the glass at an angle to get all of the C**p off of it.

b.spray it again and rub it with a scrouring pad.

c.spray it again and with a sqeegee remove the cleaner from the window.(repeat the sqeegee process 3 times.

2. cutting the tint

a. apply some watter tot he window and the sqeegee a cross into the water and the lay the tint down to cover the window.

(DONT FORGET TO LAY THE TINT ON THE WINDOW SO AS THAT YOU HAVE THE SIDE WITH THE SHEET YOU PEEL OFF TO LEAVE THE GLUE ON THE FILM FACING AWAY FROM THE WIDOW.)

b. once the shet is layed on the window cut to the shape of the window. if you are doing it with the windows left in leave about 2mm gap betwee the tint and the rubbers/egde to allow the water to escape later in the process.

c. using a heat gun apply some heat to the film to shape it to the window. easiest way to do this is to shape it to the correct shap without the heat and you should get creases up and down the tint. then with the heat gun apply heat to these creases and using your hand just push them out untill they are all gone.

3.applying the tint

ok so this is the tricky part.
you are going to need something like a presure bottle which you pump up to give you a constant spray of water for best results in this part. will be possible with ordinary spray bottle but hard.

a. in the spray btille fill it up with water and then put into that 3 drops of BABY SHAMPOO (not ordinary) this is the slip mixture

b. spray the slip onto the inside of the window which you are about to tint

c. spray some ordinary water onto a clean upright surface prefferably another peice of glass or side of car etc and the lay the cut peice of film for the window onto it in a way so as that when you pick it up it will be easy to get onto the window with fuss.

d. as you peel the sheet off the tint to reveal the sticky surface of the tint spray liberal amounts of the slip onto the tint and keep peeling.

e. once you are ready to place to tint onto the window clear your route to the window and go for it (good luck!!)

f. once the tint is on the window get the normall water again and spray sme over the top of the tint.

g. once again get your sqeegee and create a st georges cross on the tint.

h. check to make sure the tint is still in place before using the sqeegee to clear the rest of the water from the tint.

i. do this with the sqeegee until you are happy with the finish. but dont forget to keep the tint wet and not to apply to much pressure whilst using the sqeegee otherwise you cold scratch or tear it.

if doing this with the windows out it is easier but i suggest using the heat gun on the edge of the tint to give it a better seal to the edge of the glass so as that when you put the rubbers on it doesnt just pull the tint off again!!very annoying ;)

like i said you get a much beter finish when done professionally becuase the quality of the tint is better!

hope that help anybody wanting to attempt this.

cool, thanks for that. Seems a little scary to me. What kinda prices are we talking to get a company to do it. The windows will be out the car when i'm spraying it.

we do it for about £35 a window. not to sure about other companies but i believe we a quite cheap and the quality is good too. good enough for sal lumar (best quality tint film processor) to say that we are the only ones allow to uses their tint in our region.

it is obviously cheaper on a mini due to the tiny windows :(

best bet to to find a local small firm that does it because they will have the best prices.

we are in devon, teignmouth if you are close enough.

hth.

everything he said lol ^^

You just need to be patient, clean clean clean, the cleaner the better, use plenty of water, you can never use too much.

Also try to get hold of proper film, i went to my local place and got some 'sal lumar' stuff, so much better than the cheap stuff you can get!

35quid per window sounds good to me, all quotes i had were at least 200quid, so iv done all my tinting since (apart from the very rear screen which i gave up on because of its curve) but i am going to give it another go since finding out how to do it proper.
