basically got the engine running and finally got MOT and Tax on the thirty

The 998 i put in to replace the old metro engine had a bypass hose, i didnt have a bottom rad hose to fit so i used the metro one and used the big bore sandwich plate with the alternative bypass thing.

Is it safe to run like this? or is it a similar case of running with no thermostat?

I don't get what you mean, the bypass hose has nothing to do with the bottom hose. What is connected to where?

The bypass hose from the sandwich plate has to attatch to the bottom hose, otherwise it wouldn't work as a bypass hose :w00t:

how you've got it setup should be fine, but it may run a bit hotter than usual, as the bypass will now flow twice as much as it should do. If it does run too hot, just bung up the hose coming out of the sandwich plate

Basically Dan im using a bottom hose off a metro with a sandwich plate, with the out let to the bottom hose because i had that bottom hose and thermostat housing to hand the other day.

It also has the bypass hose on the water pump, which wasnt used on metro's? i think

so im using a sort of double bypass system due to the parts that were availabe when i was putting it all back together the night before the MOT.

So i should be ok then unless it cooks itself? because what i didnt want was a similar situation to when you remove the thermostat and not fit a sleeve.

So do i have an even temp?

Cheers

I can't see that you'll have any problem. A Mini will have a double bypass anyway when the heater valve is open. Once it warms up the thermostat will open and the water will circulate around the radiator as normal.

thanks for that minimanclive, i hadnt thought about the heater as well

Good job, because i didnt fancy buying a new bottom hose, and shorter bolts for the thermostat.

i shall keep the double bypass then and see how it goes

cheers all

I don't have a bypass on my car so used to run a thermostst with some holes drilled round the outer rim but had problems due to it not openeing so I took the certre out of itwhich left a hole about 1". Car over heats a bit in the traffic and runs a bit cold at the moment. Wondering should I refit the thermostst with holes drilled round the outside again.
