Can you just essentially " swap " this kind of exhaust over with the standard ? WHats involved in fitting one? What do people think of the aestetics of one of these combined with a zeemax kit ? Also.. is this the kind of exhaust that can make a standard 998 sound beefy ? As thats' what im after. What kind of exhausts will be a direct " transplant " that will make a good cond. 998 sound very very nice ? ANy advice appriciated XD

I guess you could just get a new backbox welded into the standard link pipe, but you are probably better of replacing the whole exhaust system up to the manifold.

Personally I use a 1.75" maniflow center exit exhaust kit, and I love it !

Here's a vid (the digi cam mic doesnt do the exhaust tone justice!):

I think it's loud enough really, and louder and it might just start getting annoying for you.
There's alot of choices out there but whatever you do, dont go any larger than a 1.75" bore on a 998 !

EDIT: Here's a vid of it whilst driving

isn't 1.75 still too big for a 998? i thought that's what you'd put on a 1275...

no 2" is what you put on a 1275 if my memory serves. 1.75 should be ideal

From memory 1.75" internal bore is optimum for both 998 and 1275, its only if you've got some fairly serious tuning that you NEED to go up to 2".

You can get the RC40 which is 1.75" wih a load of different exit types which should give you what your looking for:

thats just the first one I found so shop around and everything yer? Yo'd need to get the rest of the rc40 system like a link pipe from the back box to the manifold. Stick with single box system for what you're looking for I think. If you've got a bitof cash still left over then I would advise u change the std manifold for LCB and release a couple more little horse powers and ur half way to stage 1 kit then :thumbsup:

1.75 provides good flow for ALL A-series engines regardless of cc's and promotes optimum performance gains available form an exhaust. However it is best suited to 850's, 997's, 998's, 1098's and 1275. Infact it's perfect for small bore engines.

As said earlier, when you start modifying large bore engines heavily you might have to start looking at 2"+... vizard uses much larger exhausts on his Big engine builds for mini stock cars according to BigAdam... I don't have the time to read the book to find out where... but I believe him :-

Slapping on a big exhaust on a std small bore will KILL performance... don't just get something shiny... Find the exhaust that will perform best with your engine spec... and then see if a shiny option is available :)

check out these makes:

MANIFLOW
PLAYMINI
PECO
* and check minispares also.
