The only thing I know about the engine in my mini is its a 1380 and its had a fair bit of work on it.

I dont really drive the car alot but just this last week have re insured it etc etc and took it for a spin.

It rev's upto around 8k. it sounds fine but should it be revving like this?

Obviously I dont take it that high but was suprised to see the gauge go up like that when I gave it some stick

well if it had all the right kit in it then yes it is normal for it to go to 8k but if u use it as a daily runner i wouldent take it there too often.

8K? Wow! That's impressive. I think I heard somewhere that the SPi / MPi engine management gubbins limits the revs to 5.5K by default... might be wrong, but I know with my SPi by the time I get to 4.5K it sounds like it's screaming!

Plucky said nothing about his mini being an SPi/MPi. my 1275 cooper engine will rev up to about 6k, but thats screaming the nuts off it. but with a tuned engine with the righ cam and engine should be able to rev up to 8k.

Plucky said nothing about his mini being an SPi/MPi

I know, I was just adding that into the conversation as an extra bit of trivia! At least, I hope it's correct anyway...

Revving to 8K must sound awesome, don't suppose you've got a recording you can whack up here have you? Video on Youtube maybe?

If the flywheel and the like have been balanced then it will be safe to rev it to that sort of level, If things like the flywheel have been lightened then it will to taht sort of level more easily also :-

I'd expect a 1380 to have these sort of things done as i'm having a 1310 built atm and the company building it said that its a standard mod if your goin to tune and engine

Thanks for the replies.

I have no idea what cam or headwork exactly has been done to my engine unfortunately.

It certainly shifts though. I used to have a 106 1.6 xsi and that was reasonably nippy and this is much quicker than that.

I will try and get a vid for you. My dad has just got a new hard drive camcorder so it gives an excuse for me to borrow it!!!

i have a 1380 in mine with a stage 3 head and race cam. it is very high revving engine. at 50mph it is doing 5000rpm. i have been told it has a low cam in it and thats what is causing it.

What gear are you in at 50? I assume you mean people say it is your final drive causing it as opposed to your cam.
