I had my Mini parked over the winter (when it had engine problems) and now I've been working on the engine and fixing that bit I got other issues.

At first my horn wasn't working, I went and unplugged the wire connected to it, and plugged it back in and it was working last week but not any more! Then a couple days ago, I noticed my wipers and washer jets not spraying but they were working fine 1 week ago. I pushed all the buttons and noticed my heater fan also didn't work (it worked when I parked it).

Typically for issues like this in a mini, whats the culprit? Whats the fix/diagnostic?

try rolling the fuses, maybe a bad connection

and check the fuses one might be blown (or 2)

other than that ull have to wait for the clever ones to wake up

The car starts, runs, drives just fine. Signals and headlights, yield lights all work. What doesn't work are the horn, wipers and washer jets and heater fan. The first 3 of the 4 was working last week. All of them worked in october 2006.

have you checked the fuses?
it could also be a lose connection from your washer/indicator stalks.

try looking at all connections see if that helps

make sure the ignition key is returning to the correct position. my girlfriends mini did exactly this and it turned out to be the ignition as the spring to return the ignition when on start up is broken on hers. just a thought.

Where is Dklawson when you need him?.... He must know this one! Seems so simple but not that straight forward....

Anyways, I'll take a look at the connections and fuses.... The ignition position seems alright cause 1/2 of the stuff is working properly (still)....

Ok folks!... problem has been temporarily fixed.. I rotated all the fuses and wiggled all the connectors going into and out of the fuse box, wiggled the inline fuses going over the air cleaner...

the problem will be the second fuse and the third in the fuse box. you should have four.

the second one operates the horn, headlight flasher and brake failure circuit.

the third operates the heater and windscreen wipers and washers.

you will have corroded connections.

take the fuse box out completely, and rub the connectors down with some emery paper/wire wool.

the fuses are both 25 amp, so you could replace these.

this should sort it, but failing that just buy a new fuse box, will prevent you having troubles for a while

Hi just wondering if you managed to get a more permenant fix for this as my mini is now doing the same thing minus the horn issue. The wipers, jets and heater just stopped working while I was driving yesterday. I put a new fuse box in the other month and tried changing the fuses but still nothing and it's so cold! Please help!

Well it's clearly a problem with the 3rd fuse down: -

Standard 4 fuse box mounted on the bulkhead: -

1 1-2 35amp Brake Lights, Reverse Lights, Direction Indicators & Rear Screen Demister.

2 3-4 25amp Horn, Headlamp Flasher, Brake Failure Circuit & Radio Memory.

3 5-6 25amp Heater Blower Motor, Windscreen Wipers, Washer Motor & Instruments.

4 7-8 15amp Side & Tail Lights & Panel Lights.

1-2 These circuits only operate with the ignition switch at position "II".

5-6 These circuits only operate with the ignition switch at position "I" or "II".

But if your wipers don't park by themselves, replace the wiper motor park-switch (fitted on the rear of the wiper motor unit) as this can cause all kinds of electrical problems on that particular circuit.
