gears knocking help

hi all just wondered if anyone can help, il put it into gear it be ok the then change gear it make a knocking sound or when i press the gas then take my foot of it will do it. also i have an oil leak from the front at the bottom any help would be great thanks.

top engine steady bushes are knackered causing the clunking...grab hold of the engine and see if you can rock it back and forth.

the oil leak could be from anywhere though on a mini, lol.

HI Dave your knocking noise is probibly top engine steady rubbers gone
try rocking the engine and see

when i rev the engine it does move but i havent held it and tried moving it but it does when i rev???? how much and how easy are bushes to fit??? also the oil leak are they a normal problem on minis lol?

if its moving when you rev it then yeah they're f**ked. only cost a couple of quid to replace luckily.

most minis leak oil from somewhere, usually if it aint leaking its empty :withstupid:

The most common oil leak is from the gear selector shaft seal, but that's relatively easy to fix because you can buy a replacement seal kit from Mini Spares.

If you can get you're Mini in to the air so you can safely look underneath, you can then usually see where it's coming from and if it is indeed the gear selector shaft area that's got the oil leak.

Which part of the engine is the oil leak ie clutch end, middle, or waterpump end how far back from forward edge etc, etc

hey all
i fixed the oil leak today it was the oil gauge switch or whatever it is, replaced that and its ok so far. and ordered some engine mounts so will do those sat or sun.

theres a tiny oil leak again only a drip or so but when i put oil in it seemed to leak more,it coming from a spongy bit sort of at the front underneth.
