having tried 2 sorts of grease on the clutch plunger and long clutch arm I find that I am needing something which does not dry out and start to sieze things up when it dries out and goes rock hard. I have used multi purpose lithium based grease (the yellow stuff) and now that black grease (molybendium?) for cv joints; on inspection today the grease has dried out and consequently snapped the ball off of the end of the clutch lever. Out comes the landy till i get a new arm in the post next week

What about copper grease? will that dry out with the heat from the engine?

what do you chaps use??

oh and also, its a diaphram clutch with the long arm.

The clutch release system needs graphited grease only. Graphogen is the most commonly available brand but there are others, most lubricant companies make a graphited grease. Any other type of grease has the risk of contaminating the clutch by it migrating through the cover, using moly grease here would give a serious risk of this happening as it is a very thin and runny grease with a high surface tension and is slippery as anything with the other problem that it is very heat resistant and won't burn off. Graphite will burn away if it makes its way into the clutch.

so if moly grease has a high heat resistance, why has it gone yucky and dried out, turning into something like clay.

where can i buy graphite grease from? is it common enough to be sold in a motor factors?
