Hi, I would like to change my front indicators (which are presently standard screw in ones) for the earlier smaller ones with the chrome bezel.
Has anyone else done this or know if it's a simple procedure?
Thanks for your time.

Hi,

Im sure you can as i done it on mine when i fitted a new front panel.

The base of the older style one uses the 2 screws to hold it in place then the chrome trim and lens are held in place by the rubber base.

Hope this helps

Not without changing the front panel. The mounting for the later lamp basically cuts out all the metal that the original lamp is screwed to as the hole the later one needs to pass through is larger. If you remove yours and look at the cutout you can see three very small notches in the sides of the large hole, that's where the older style screwed into and there's no way a spire clip will hold to such a small edge effectively, the panel was redesigned to be able to fit the later type which are screwed into a pair of plastic push in riv-nut/rawl plug things. The original has three spire clips over the three notches that the self tapping screws thread into and I just don't think they'll hold the the smaller edge of the later panel. If you are after a chrome rim, Mini Spares now make a chrome cover to give the later plastic lamp a shiny edge which is quite effective.

Actually, thinking about it there are two designs of base for the glass lamp. Some use two screws, again through spire clips in place of the three. These are roughly in the same place as the screws for the late plastic lamp so it might be a straight swap. You will have to pay close attention to earthing the bulbs with the glass lamp as one of the types earths through the body rather than having an earth cable.

Thanks Dan, I will probably be changing my front panel soon, so waiting until then seems the best option. Thanks for the info on the chrome rim, I didn't know they did one for the later lamps.
