I have fittted a K&N element to my filter housing - do I remove the metal air scoop type thing or leave it be?

Just leave it there mate.... you mean the entrance on the air box don't you, with a little metal flap...

Only metal thing I think it could be is the hot air feed.

to be honest it make slittle differnce which is why i said just to leave it... but if it's off... you could leave it off.

It will be slightly quieter with it fitted. You will get more induction noise without it.

Most people don't notice the difference they make because most of them are failed. When they work they work well, sadly the bi-metal spring in them doesn't last very long. If it doesn't stay tightly closed when cold you should get a new one.
