*Crud!, this isnt injection specific at all... not good start.. my bad :[ *

Hi there i have just taken the head off of my 1988 austin mini (998) to change the head gasket. We have had the car for near 2 years and i have had to do the gasket once before. (was blown when we purchased the mini iirc or near then).

I took the head off and the gasket was completely blown between cylinders 3+4, I didnt do a very good job of draining the radiator so there was a wee bit of water on the pistons. (my bad) I moved all the pistons to TDC in turn to wipe it off and when i did i noticed something abit strange. There where dents and marks on piston number 4, the marks where circular which suggests they came from the inlet valve however that particular valve looks to be the newest. Im allmost positive the marks where not there last time.... however i would prefer it if they where...

The marks themselves are odd, take a peek.

I should have taken a pics of the other inlet valves for comparison *DoH!* but i assure you it's in the best condition of all.

Could i have missed it the 1st time or are those marks new? Surely the markes would be in the same place as the valves cant move side to side?!. EEK! If the marks are new surely the valve would look shagged? What are your thoughts?

HI Matt, top pic is valve damage, damage moved possibley due valve becoming bent,

Ahh, i thought so. I geuss that means im a tard and it has allways been like that i just didnt notice. It would also explain why that particular valve looks the newest. Thanks for the input.

Have you fitted non-standard rockers? Like 1.5s?

there is nothing in its history that suggests such a switch-a-roo but its possible.
