Hi, having decided on which block I'm going to buy, it would seem safe to put a new set of brakes in first.

I have been advised to go for a Cooper s kit (I have a Mk3 850). Is this the best advice as I am fairly new to this and have been confused by the array of options available in the catalogues?

do you have drum or disc brakes?

epending on how fast you intend to go or more importantlly how much engine power you will put in it depends on what brake set up you want.

if your going for a larger engine, then i would suggest that you upgrade to disc brakes with a 8.5 or a 7.5 set up depending on if your running 12 or 10's requiring the 7'5 set up.

you can also do caliper 4pot modifications to assist, this will also mean changing the master cylinder for one with a servo, pedal block changing a few other bits in the engine bay.

Sorry for being so vague. I am hoping to get a 1380 road engine from MED. Everything on my car is currently standard, so I assume that it has drum brakes?
I would like to keep it retro, therefor, I will probably stick with 10" wheels.

ok then as i stated aboe you will definatlly need to upgrade your brakes to disc with a brake servo and 7.5 set up if your using 10 inch wheels

Think you might want a gearbox as well don't think the 850 one will be that good for it.
