After months of hard work sorting my rusty mini (no longer rusty) it's failed the MOT due to indicators flashing too fast.
The Hazards work fine, perfectly normal speed. The indicators however flash at twice the normal speed. I have replaced the flasher unit but it's still the same. On closer inspection it looks as though the wings originally had side repeaters fitted but they have been removed, would this cause the increased indicator speed?
I only have a few days left to sort this out or i have to pay for another MOT.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Yep taking the side reaters off will have sped up the ticking considerably.

Yeah, they are allowed to flash at any rate between 60 and 120 times per minute. If the wiring is still there for the side repeaters, try putting a bulb in there (even if it's hidden for now) just to see if they slow down.

Wiring is no longer there!! I'll try putting a couple of bulbs in the circuit tonight or may be a resistor or two!!
Thanks for your quick reply, i also have my first windscreen replacement to do tonight!!
On a good note they didn't find any rot as i've spent alot of time welding and sealing.
I can't wait to get it back on the road, instant smile.

Depending on the age of the vehicle it is a requirement to have side repeaters, think it's 1986 © reg..

Just checked, first used/registered 1st April 1986, side repeaters required.

If not required, you need a 2x15w flasher and make sure the bulbs in the indicators are 15w

Ummm, yeah, something like that. Can't remember 100% but it was either '86 or '87.

It's a D reg, garage haven't mentioned the side repeater issue, not sure wether it should have or not so i'm keeping quiet :D

Just checked log book first registered 01/02/1987.

Thanks GuessWorks, i'll give it a try tonight, if i can find a flasher unit.

Don't forget to update the post with your result.

Too many posts just die off when the problem has been resolved, it would be nice to hear what was successful to tie it up.....
