I've heard so many different opinions on running in, from 100miles to 1000.
Self built engine? If not, refer to the engine builder.
Mine's a very similar spec, self built. I'm gonna run mine in on running in oil for IRO 250 miles I reckon. Then slap the roller rockers on and give it some decent oil and monitor it for 250 more miles, then change oil, RR setup and away to go!

I'd slap standard rockers on it to run it in to be honest.

Yer, self build by the genius that is me *worried* lol, nah itll b sound. Gonna ask southam aswell, but just wanted to get a quick idea from people who may have experienced problems. Bill solis suggests just using plain old mineral oil, never synthetic, just 1960's stuff =p obv not that old. lol. Normal rockers to lower the lift and therefor make it a lower reving less loaded, easier to drive engine for a while??? Cheers bud, Alex

Let it rev if it feels like it, don't labour it too much, avoid a lot of constant rpm running as this can glaze the bores, as will bore wash if its running rich.
Change the oil and filter and away you go.

run it for 20 minutes @ 2k rpm on the drive first to bed the cam and followers in. Use a cheap mineral oil to run it in, anything from 250 to 1000 miles depending on how you feel.

Meh, 2k's nothing. I wouldn't think your neighbours would complain at that really.
I forgot to mention that 2k bit actually. Apparently it's essential for a new cam/followers.

oh rite, ill keep that in mind! Neighbours r bein annoyin recently tho man, new kid you see. Its pretty loud with a good compression ration just up from idle tho. Ill see how it goes. only once for 20 mins isnt it! they can chill out. Is this for constant load on the followers then? ps danwebster, what rockers did you have on? and cam? cheers, alex.

My bro used to run a 5 port though. The initial 20 minutes is to bed the followers in, after that you're bedding the rings in.
