well last night i was locked out of my mini. the central locking wouldnt work and the handles are aboviusly bust as my key wouldnt open the doors! either of them! i had no way of getting into my car and i had work in the morning! ooooh bugger!

so along comes 8:30 this morning right on time as usual! and so came my predicament! i needed to get to work but couldnt get into my car. what to do!

2 minutes later i was inside my car driving to work, minus 1 rear window! i couldnt believe how easily we could get broken into if someone has the slight knowledge of what to do!

this got me thinking about installing motion sensors and window break detectors etc etc. then i thought why not attatch an electrical contact to the heater element wire and run it as a break to the alarm! when its broken the alarm sounds!

what do you think? would it work?

Not if you want to use the screen heater, and since it's resistive wire being a heater element and not just plain wire the alarm would have trouble recognising it. You can get alarm tape that sticks to glass for building alarms though. You could put a strip of that along the bottom of all the windows. Or a better alarm with a peizo detector.

there are alarms with ultrasonic detectors, if the wave patern is disturbed, it sounds... u could leave the car with the windows open, nothing would happen until somebody steps in :teehee:

nope just took it out, was silent and fast that is what i didnt like!

i have been looking at ultrasonic detectors and tat lot for while but cant put those alarms in without taking out the rover alarm etc which means getting the ecu coded and money money money! damn 5as system, got to love the security system though if you dont want to take it out!

If a theif wants to get into your mini, s/he's either going to try the locks to see if they can be opened, or unlocked easily, or s/he's going to break one of the front windows, or bend the top of the door out.

to be honest if someone is going to steal a car.. they're going to steal a car... the best thing is to have big visual deterrents.. huge wheels locks, nothing valuable on show blah blah blah etc.... if they know what they are doing with a mini in particular (or any older car to be honest) then they would just pull out the alarm box wiring or the box itself and throw it out the window...bound to be some chav or something though - those VERY SILLY PEOPLE!!! :D

even tho did think that sonic thing sounded pretty cool!

should just hire big men with shaved heads to stand by them.... talk about security!! - might add to the mpg though.. carting around huge blokes in the back... :w00t:

edit
also cheers for the tip if i ever do lock myself out!

I used to leave the Mini unlocked on the drive as if someone break in they damage the car immediatley anyway and it was parked under my window so i'd hear any rummaging going on..... that said, some bu66er knicked my bike last week!!!

Thankfully i am now building a Mini Storage Facility/Workshop in the house instead of a kiddies playroom!!!! :w00t:
