Hi Can anyone help is there any way to fit a reversing light switch to this gearbox stick set up

It was the post 1973 rod change gear stick set-up that got the reverse light switch screwed into the side of the selector shaft.

I don't know if anyone has fitted such a device to a remote gear shift type of gearbox? Or if it's possible?

Could be wrong as I've never owned one, but I think there was a a switch that replaced the reverse plunger on the gearbox itself. front nearside corner of the casing just above the fins.

Be surprised if you can still get one. Suppose you could rig up something yourself on the remote housing.

I don't often say this to another guy, but... you've got a gorgeous bottom end there.

The remote shift boxes on the Minis never had a reverse light switch but there is an answer if you can find the parts. You need the reverse light switch and related components from an MG-1100 or Austin America. These don't fit on the remote housing, they go on the front of the gearbox and replace the reverse detent components.

Go to the front of the gearbox and look under the oil filter. You'll see a hex head plug there. Remove that plug and the reverse detent parts. Replace them with the components you steal from the MG-1100/AA box. The set point of that switch is controlled by the thickness of the sealing washer between the gearbox case and the bottom of the switch body.

EDIT: DO NOT forget to refit the half-moon rubber seal where your remote housing bolts to the gearbox. I noticed in the picture that the seal is missing.

thanks for the info still got lots to do to finish interior,wiring,spraying and all the bits in engine bay
