you should only carry 4, but you could get away with 5 if there are 5 seatbelts fitted (unless your car was built before rear seat belts were factory fitted)

The Mini is and always has been a 4 seat car. There are only 4 seats, the fact that it wasn't recorded on the logbook for many years means nothing. The opinion of the Police is likely to be that there are only 4 seats. All cars built after 1987 are required to have seatbelts for all forward facing seats, only 4 belts were ever fitted so there are only 4 seats.

So if you have no rear seat belts does that mean you can have 5 then? :-

Lol, so because there wasnt any belts in the back when built and still none fitted you could get as many people on the seat as possible, i reckon you could squeeze at least 6 or 7 in there........

sorry couldnt resist that

Think its worth noting that you should only be carrying 4 people irrespective of if there are seatbelts fitted or not, the number of people in the car seriously effects the handling and stopping distances. Adding more weight to a car than it was designed to carry is a recipe for disaster !

It appears that a lot of young people dont understand this, particularly those that drive saxo's who seem to regularly crash them when they are full !

Ha Ha. A chav put his into the front of a shop by me, think that was fully loaded aswell. No doubt the ******* had been necking some white lightning down the local train station before hand as the shop is down a straight road :-

Its quite sad really, interestingly enough when you learn to drive & do your theory nothing about this is mentioned !
