Hi people. Just wondered if some one could tell me why there were 2 different types of mechanical fuel pump produced for the mini?

Minispares sell 2 different types:

1) FUEL PUMP MECHANICAL TYPE FOR 1990 ON 1275cc VERSIONS (AZX1817)

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=38573

2) FUEL PUMP MECHANICAL UP TO 1989 (AZX1818)

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=34648

I need a new one for my 1275 mayfair (1993) and the one i need is AZX1817. However this has been out of stock for since the end of feb and minispares have told me they don't know when they will be getting any in! HELPFUL!!! ;D

Minisport and such sell one type of pump guess this is of the universal variety. In this case would it be possible to use AZX1818 on my engine or are there major differences between the two?

Cheers

Chris

as far as i know there is a major difference between the two pumps.
you must make sure when replacing the pump you buy the correct one and use
the right spacer, or it could result with the arm falling into your gearbox.

looking at the two pumps on those links they do look very similar and even the description
basically says they are both the same. but i know there is two very different types of pumps so
be carefull.
maybe you should ring and ask minispares.

cheers oli.

I went and bought one from my local motor factors this afternoon. Must be the universal type as like most of the aftermarket pumps, them they specify their for mini's from 1969 to 1994! If thats what they say guess thats what goes!!

Now time to fit it and flush the internals of the engine of all the oily fuel from the last bugger leaking!! ;D

Thanks again!

Chris
