oil filter housing leak

if i took my oil filter housing off to replace the gasket (its leaking) will oil leak loads from the block?

I assume you're talking about removing the filter head, the right-angle casting that bolts to the block and onto which the filter attaches. There is a paper gasket between the block and the filter head and if you remove the filter first, you'll have a slow, trickle of oil out/down the block once you remove the filter head. A shallow pan full of cat-litter will handle the amount but you'll probably want to wash the block and gearbox off after you're done with the repair.

Personally id take it as an opportunity to replace the oil and filter :shifty: That way your likely to make much less of a mess.
