Hi folks,
Am just wating for a quote back from a garage on the cost of replacing both outer sills with the full width 9inch ones, as it is a fairly involved job they said it will be fairly expensive, any one got any ball park figures on what i might be looking at?
I had a look at the sills the other day as the mot is coming up and the dreaded tinworm is there with a hole in one.Many thanks :sad:

I had oversills and a floorpan seam welded in for £90. I supplied the panels. If they are going to cut off the old ones then maybe another hour and a halfs labour.

I charge £80 per side (including sill) but i fitt them corectly by spot welding the door step/rear 1/4 seam and miging the rest
I remove the rusty original sill
I use weld-through zinc primer
I spray them with body shutz after (this is ok over new panels , its only when you spray it over rust that the problems start )

For those of you across the pond , sill = rocker panel

I believe there is a dole monkey that will fit them for £30 a side :grin: but i think he uses wood screws , no nails and an arc blober/hole maker

Woody, I may be over here... but I know what a sill is. The word you guys use that messes me up is calling a convertible top a "hood".

Aren't the 9" panels oversills? I cut my sills off and put regular sills back on with all the prep work described above.

80 pounds is a great price I think to completely and properly replace a sill!

One question though guys: When replacing sills if you do it one by one, there is no need to cross brace the shell, right?

because the mini has the crossmember which the seats bolt onto, this acts as a brace so you could do both sill at once...

Not to start an argument here, but replace sills "one at a time". Yes the crossmember adds strength... left to right. The sill imparts fore-aft rigidity to the car. If your inner sills are at all questionable, removing both outer sills at once may allow the car to "sag" a bit. This will be less likely if you replace them one at a time.

good point dk about the state of the inner sills, only ever do one side at a time if the inner sills are in anything bar perfect condition, and as most of us probably have found out at some stage when you have to do a sill there is normally something else which you have to do as well..

Brace it up it takes 10 minutes and saves a lot of grief. As said the crossmember does as it says braces across not fore and aft.

Many thanks for the replies that is about the price range i have been given i asume the rover 9" ones are not over sills as suggested by dklawson as i would like the old ones removed to get rid of any chance of the tinworm coming through again.Will let you know how i get on.

Perhaps 9" ones aren't oversills, I'm not near my car that I can measure them. Regardless, I'm glad you're removing the old ones and not covering them. You're doing a much better fix.
