Hi everyone,

I would love to put my iPod in my mini (image below), its got a Sony head unit that the previous owner put in there ("CDXM9905X"). Its got a AUX channel any advice as to what cables to use and would I need to get the radio key from the previous owner.

Thanks for all your replies in advance.

Yes, You can get a Phono > 3.5 Headphone Jack to put your Ipod into the Head unit.

Failing that, Do you have a CD writer, Just create a Data disk, and put like 800mb of music onto the disk, Rather than "80 minutes". Im sure the Sony Players are MP3 compatible. That way you can have 300 songs on one CD.

As for getting the radio out, If you have a dashboard fitted, Just unscrew the dash from behind "Butterfly nuts, Will be 4 or 6", And drop the dash down.

That way you can route the wire where you want neatly too.

what the hell.... do you get commission from microsoft? mp3's are waay better in terms of quality vs size.. wma is flat as hell.

if you really want to compare formats.. Ogg-Vorbis is better than MP3.. and even more FLAC, but thats mega size.

EDIT - you'll find that cable on Ebuyer or Maplin ;D

if your sony has cd changer controls built in to it you can get a thing called a connect2
its about £50 and it will charge your ipod as you drive and show all the track info on the sony screen
and if your sony has a remote you can use it to control your ipod

all very cool ;D

You can be posh and buy an adapter to plug into the back of your head unit and then to the iPod. Or an iTrip or similar device that lets you listen to your iPod through your FM radio.

oh that's interesting, i've made a very simple/stealth setup for mini launch (we just named our mini hehe)
Sony Xplod 250w, bought on ebay, second hand, very well kept. Bolt on under speaker board in boot (very well hidden) RCA cables running to the front, RCA to 3.5 jack connector and a 2nd gen ipod shuffle in place (goes well with the size of the mini)
Board setup is a couple of no name but damn loud 6x9ers on the sides and a 6" sub in the center.
Happy driver, happy wife and very annoyed passengers at rear. hehe
Cheers

I've not got one in my Mini yet, but in my Rover 100 (of which the audio stuff is probably gona get transfered over at some point) I use a 3.5mm to Aux in on my Kenwood Sterio, this goes to the Line out of a standard iPod Dock, the dock has no platic cover thing on it, instead an MDF frame was built around it/the ipod to make a more stable slide-in dock (if that makes any sence) That was then fabbed into the cassete holder (basically the center console) the dock has an ipod cigarette lighter adapter pluged into it, altho this is hard wired into the wiring.

Works well and is a neat, tidy, easy to use, cheap solution. :shifty:

If youve got an aux on the front u can use a straight double ended jack lead, one end going in the aux on headunit and one end into the headphones input on the ipod, thats what i got in my mini, if you got the aux out the back out the head unit u can get a universal ipod lead from any audio shop that will go into the bottom of the ipod.
hope it helps
