I hear all the time how fast these cars are 0-60 wise, but what do they continue to s#accelerate like after. We all know how beautifully un-aerodynamic a mini is and wondered how these lettle revvy engines cope top end wise.

saving to do a non-a series mini conversion and very interested in the bike engined route but want to make sure when I get ti the track i dont get near topping out on straights.
Obviously you can start spending big bucks and do a Huddersfield Spares 400bhp busa engine one and gear it longer...and that is even more funds to raise althou could be done at a later date....

what is your opinion guys??

Hi SteveO
I have not driven these cars myself but I have seen the data from Chris Allanson's car after racing around several tracks and believe me they do not run out of puff!

It was 115mph on the straight at Anglesey and still pulling faster than my Caterham at 60 mph and that's with a standard engine. It's all relative I suppose and the 400hp Darrian and 350hp turbo Mazda RX7 did go faster down the straight.
Like I said I don't have one so I'll be interested to see what others have to say.

I've heard talk about a Zcars built turbo Hayabusa with a very flat torque curve that even impressed Powertec when being dynoed. How fast do you want to go?

Generally they do accelerate in an almost linear fashion up to the limiter. As they are geared down from the original sprockets on a bike they're only able to hit around the 130mph mark.

If top speed was a worry for you then I'm sure the gearing can be altered but I couldn't comment on the effect that will have on the acceleration.

To give you an idea I took a friend out in mine, from stationary at the top of a slip road (private roads your honor......) to the fast lane was enough to hit the limiter in top gear! ;D

ive raced our stewel bodied mini now at oulton park, mallory, angelsey and croft, ive never hit the rev limit in top gear yet and in fact for angelsey i dropped the gearing one tooth to get a tad more accelaration out of the car
they just seem to pull all the way without letting up at all and the busa will definatly hit 130 mph which is pretty fast in a mini
the hondav tec cars hit 150 mph if its top speed you are after
theres no obligation to buy a car but if you want a look round and a demo then feel free to visit us any time
we have a big power turbo conversion that weve just fitted to a monte carlo for a rumanian hill climber its a real peach of an engine with nearly flat torque curve and smooth progressive power curve too
in fact it is identical in every way to the v 8 hyabusa motor that powertec do for the radicals when we dynoed it at their dyno the other day they were mighty impressed with the way it produced its power
the key to quick times on road or track isnt headline bhp but the way it produces the power, the mistake most turbo builders make is to go for big hp figures and pay no attention to how it produces that power
when the monte was strapped down to powertecs dyno we had straps front and rear x 4 then two holding it down onto the rollers every time the operator floored the throttle the front wheels were hopping off the floor the instant he touched the throttle not three seconds later when the turbo spooled up
he was in 6th gear and simulating a race type situation by dropping off the throttle to 3000 rpm then giving it 60% throttle to 5000 rpm then full throttle then backing off etc etc, ive seen hundreds of engines on the dyno in my time but i was mighty impressed with this one,we are testing at bruntingthorpe this wednesday with the rumanian guy and i cant wait to drive it and watch him drive as well
should be an interesting day
chris
