I'm at the stage now of getting my radiator sorted for my car. Just wondering what the weapon of choice is among the people on here? It's for a standard turbo unit. I've seen and read so many reviews I'm now more confused than ever!

basically the minis cooling system can just cope as a standard setup (standard radiator is a 3 core unit). and tuning you do the first thing you should do before is upgrade your radiator. you can go 4 core or 2 core, with the 2 core being the choice of many. it should be enough to cope with you standard turbo unit.

mind you the era turbo mini also had another smaller radiator, just behind the grille.

mini boo their could be a few ways to do this. you can either put it before the inside heater in the car. T piece of the heater pipe going to the cylinder head and the T it back in after the inside rad, heater. if that makes any sense. or you could take it off the thermostate housing if you get a metro one with the sandwich bit in between and take it off that and T the other bit back into the bottom house normally where you would but it into the underside of the head at the front of the engine number 1 piston. does that makes sense. im not very good at explaining things but im sure that will work as i was going to use another rad but didnt use it in end so i have a spare heater matrix off a jag in garage.

what about the alloy rad tech one? looks swish under the bonnet but the hefty price tag is off putting.

I've heard mixed reviews on these, so i just stuck with the much cheaper Minispare 2core job.

i've heard good things about the mk1 metro rad if you have got room to fit it up front. and with the front off i always think they look good with a front mounted rad. and obviously aids cooling just from being upfront. but then it also decreases the air flow through the engine bay i would have thought, so your ambient temp would increase. pro's and cons with everything ey!

I have run with both metro rads no probs (on turbo with somewhere close to 180BHP) , except in a "round nose" you would be wise to fit new engine mounts and up grade by adding a front and rear lower engine mounts off the transfer case to subframe, you will also need to run dizzyless (unless you are fitting it in a clubby) a four core or an Austin 1100 / 1300 rad is better than a two core.

Also you will need to move the alternator (raise it aka MPI) to give the rad fan some space...... :-)
