hi all, can anyone help me by confirming the correct way to wire the ignition kit onto a distrubutor with blue points ????? I have a ballasted system so i know that i need to run a seperate live but where should i take it to, i tried taking it to the white wire that runs from the ignition switch to the fuses and when i tried to start it the engine just knocked and banged and wouldn't start !!!! Also the kit says to reconnect the earth wire to the new plate but there is no hole in the plate to screw into so i had to use the big fixing screw !!!! Is this right ??????
I thought this was meant to be a quick 5 minute job and it's turning into a nightmare !!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance for your help

The Ignitors usually attach with a single screw to the breaker plate. Any available screw on the plate can be used as an earthing point for the flexible wire that must run between the breaker plate and the dizzy housing. Just make sure the wire position does not restrict the ability of the breaker plate to move.
You need to use a volt meter to confirm your 12V feed is correct. Ignitor red wire = 12V, black = coil (-), mounting plate = earth. Make sure the magnet button that slides on the dizzy shaft is ALL the way down. Don't forget to re-install the rotor. Once you know you've got 12V to the ignitor, that the earth connection is good, and the rotor is all the way down, try to start the car. If it won't catch, perform a static ignition timing on the engine.
I know they say that you just fit the parts, start the car, and check the DYNAMIC timing, but I know of at least two people for whom this hasn't worked and they had to static time the car to about 5 BTDC to get the car running and then set the dynamic timing with a timing light.

Top left blade on the fusebox for your feed
And you WILL have to reset the timing as DK said, its not a fit and off you go product like you are lead to believe. As I found out when I plonked mine and and went off down the motorway !
Mine came off and will eventually be refitted when I do some more mods and have it at the RR'd
