So earleir today before a 140 mile round trip, the fuel tank was almost full. I thought I'll go fill it right up, because I like collecting Nectar points and I didn't know of any BP garages near where I was going. So, I put £3 in and the nozzle stopped. Usually at this point I keep going but just gently pull the trigger so it fills RIGHT up. After another £1, if that, it usually fails to let me put ANY more fuel in at all.

But on this occasion it kept going, right up to £7-odd and then overflowed down the car and onto the ground

It was level wit the fuel filler cap and spilling out all over. Obviously I immediately put the nozzle back in its holster.

I walked into the garage and told the guy there's quite a large spillage of fuel out there. He just said "oh. It'll be alright". No offer to put sand down or attempt to clear it up! No instruction to make me do so! I asked him if there was anything to get the extra fuel out or anything, and he just said no :|

So I ended up rocking the car, spilling fuel all over the car and ground. Naturally I used the paper towelling to clean the car and try soak some of the fuel up so I could get the cap on properly, but balls to the ground. That's his problem. How can petrol station attendants be so, well, useless? Isn't it dangerous to have a quantity of fuel on the ground? Hence the sign saying "notify attendant of any spillages"?

Ah well, after 140ish miles I've still got over half a tank of fuel left, amazing >_<

Should have just left it and drove, rather then rocking the car.

Its your responsibility to cover any spillage with sand as far as i gather, then you report it to the person behind the counter.
Sand is normally supplied around the forecourt, as are gloves, towels and other bits.

I generally don't fill a mini petrol tank even close to the filler neck, because the caps ALWAYS leak, which leaves a nice cruddy mess down the side of the panel! I must admit its a bit erm, 'simple' (sorry, couldn't think of a nicer way of putting it, no offence intended :shifty:) of you to fill the tank up so much. There are enough garages around the country for you to get from one to next on a cupful of fuel!

Yes but some are much more expensive than others.

If you're that bothered about money that a few pence per litre on fuel upsets you, then you shouldn't own a mini! :shifty:

A previous owner had at some point filled the tank up in my mini too much, there is a lovely stain down the side of the car which I can't get off ;D

Not if your going to spend several pounds putting fuel on the floor at the cheaper stations! :shifty:

;D lol. Well as I say the dozens of times I've filled up before, it's stopped, then allowed me to put an extra £1-ish in, then stopped and not let me put any more in at all. I didn't want it to all spill down the car because it was leaking a little bit that's why I rocked the car to get a bit more out. Oh well, it's washed & waxed weekly so I doubt the fuel spill will leave a permanent mark on the paintwork... I dropped a beaker of turps & pale blue paint out of the bedroom window accidentally and it splashed all over the 2 wings, windscreen and bonnet and that's come off with no signs of it ever being there :shifty: lol
