Two questions here for mr 96' Mini Cooper!

1. Put my headlights on last night and there was a ticking noise from behind the passenger side headlight. Anyway i worked out it was the headlight adjuster motor. Can you fix these or do you have to buy a new one and where from?

2. Can anyone tell me if i have a single point or multi-point injection system? Or do you have tolook at the engine?

Cheers for the help!!

If you have headlamp adjusters you have an MPi.

The headlamp adjuster may not be broken, it could just be out of sync with the controller. Run the switch through its positions and see if the tracking stops. Check that its connector is fully home. If you do have to replace it, the motor is just fitted to the back of the bowl and I think is only a bayonet fit. They're 35 quid-ish and Mini specialists will do them. Pretty much a sealed unit that's not designed to be fixed if it breaks, like all modern car parts. Doesn't mean it's impossible though if you take it apart and find out how it works.

cheers for that.

i have taken the motor out and it is sealed for life, basically i need a new one. it is broken, the screw that sticks out of it has snapped. how can you tell if the tracking stops and how do you fix it if it doesnt stop? whats the connecter, the screw which connects to the surround of the light?

the motor makes a whirring noise when its tracking, and stops whirring when its done its job. the connector is the plug on the back of the motor with 2 wires sticking out.

Both on mine are gone and need new ones too. Should be available on Minispares. It might be easier and cheaper to just get the bowls without the
adjustable motors. With most new cars it's possible to adjust the beam height ... how many times people use that?? :P I don't so I'm just getting the bowl without motors for adjustment.
SPI still has the radiator on the side when MPI has it in the front.

My mate got a new one for a tenner for his 98 Paul Smith which had that problem, can't rember where, it was one of the better known mini spares companies, not sure which though...

If that's the case then it won't matter if it's a SPI or MPI. It could be that all the factory equipment has to work but not sure.
Maybe someone else can advise. I'll give it a go without them :P
