Has anyone put EFI into their mini using MegaSquirt ?

I am planning on using Microsquirt when it becomes available in my 1979 mini. I am working on unique TB for this project. Just wondering if anyone else is doing it.

this can be done as long as you mount the injectors a long way from the, ie in a similar position as the SU would be.

If you try to mount the injectors close to the head face you will run into problems.

on turbo minis there is a section dedicated to a new dedicated megasquirt code to enable port injection, if your interested have a look.

Im an running VEMS which is a similar (but in my opinion superior) package on an SPi set up and it works very well.

Port injection set ups are difficult to achieve for reasons stated above.

I am currently looking into the Jenvy throttle boddies on an SU manifold, which is a good place to start from scratch.

Fuel injection is the way forward, its a steep learning curve with programable ECUs, but once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder why people harp on about carbs

Im planning on using megasquirt on my mini but im not sure how you go about mapping it :-
Can you do it yourself or do you have to take it to a rolling road?

You can do it yourself (preferably with a wide band lambda) But its easier to take it to an RR especially if you dont have experience of setup an engine, unless you've got lots of time and dont need the car running straight off.

If you do not want to spend money on RR sessions then i suggest you get the VEMS with onboard wideband Lambda and exhaust gas temp sensors. The remote LCD display gives real time lambda, exhaust ags temp, throttle position, manifold absolute pressure, igntion advance. That, with laptop data logging, and VE learn, makes it far easier to self tune.

I looked into both Megasquirt and VEMS when buying and opted for the VEMS, it is a far better packaged unit for the same price. The information availability was a bit of a mine field, but im over that now, so if you do take VEMS into consideration, i'm only willing to help.

I will be making up an adapter loom for plug and play with the VEMS and standard SPi loom for a friend, so all the difficult bit are taken care of.

I have the Jenvey setup with Emerald K3. Still building the rest of the car but the engine is running great and it is so much fun to tweak the car using your laptop. I also have the Innovate LC1 wideband as Sprocket mentions, a lot easier to configure when you have real time data.

I built mine with a stock SPI manifold for now, but chose the GM factory ECM and tune my own chips for it.
No real difference from an aftermarket ECM. Just a little cheaper and more plentiful in the US!!

MS may be a future option if I go with a power adder.

Well, I've ordered my Microsquirt. Should have it in a couple of days. I will wire it up for ignition first and then play around with the fuel side of things later. If anyone has MSII running on their A-series, could you publish your VE tables, etc, so I have a starting point?

Thanks.
