Nice Mini! It sounds as if he's had a bit of a rough life previous to meeting you, but now I'm sure he'll get lots of love and attention, and it seems like you are experiencing just some of the joys of Mini ownership! Hopefully you'll get the problems sorted soon then it'll be all good!!

I just spent ages giving Freddie's innards a good clean and then washed him too, idiot me left the radio on the entire time I was doing this...probably 2 hours or so and now his bloomin' battery's flat again noooooooooooooooooooo I'm useless at bump starting

oh yeah, when I finally got on the way home...i noticed a loud popping sound, happened twice and I lost some power (though that could have been partially because I was going up a slight hill ) pulled over as I thought I had a flat... nope

freddy looks lovely!!

as for the popping sound, mine did this occasionally, someone said it was just unburnt fuel popping, once up to temp and given some revs it goes away

hmm...I was told it was probably my exhaust

I was going about 70 when I heard the pops, so to be honest I doubt it was unburnt fuel!!

oh and thanks for the compliment on Freddie I took some piccies after I cleaned him, he's all shiney now only, he won't start now either

turns out we own a battery charger but a friend of the family's borrow it but I can pick it up tomorrow!!

alternator bearings are going, so that's gotta be changed soon grrr...oh well, shall charge Freddie's battery back up tomorrow and see about getting him a new alternator

Hanna, might be cheap to get yours reconed - the altanater that is
Theres a place in Hereford that'll do a complete overhaul, and if they only need to change something like the brushes, they'll "ganentee" the whole item, so say you got the brushes changed, and then 6months later the bearings went, they'll do the work for nowt

Might be worth you have a flick though the yellow pages and see if anyone like that down your way can do it

I 'think' I have a spare alternator in the garage, it used to work but has been off the car for years so I couldn't guarantee it. You can have that if you want!

Or just a buy a New one on exchange and be done with it, fit and forget.

aww bless you matt, i'd need it by monday morning though and if it doesn't work, well yeah we'll see, I need to have talks about getting my alternator changed anywho, might turn out there's a spare one in london for me *shrug* we'll see
