Well as some of you know my poor little mini has been off the road for some time now after failing an MOT on 13 different items.

Well with the help of BristolMiniMad and MiniMadMe ive slowly been getting the 'Beast' ready for a certain mini run.

Well the last thing on the list (and the one that was taking ages to sort out) is the welding, something I cant yet do myself.

A nice chap came round last night to take a look and here is what we found:

After pulling the seam cover off: >_<

I nealy cried :shifty:

And....

So the plan is now to get the mini insured and get it to this chaps work place to be welded then just the MOT to get done!

(Need a mini friendly MOT place near Bristol????)

Oh forgot to say I just insured it with HIC https://www.hertsins...ce.com/mini.php and got my nice TMF discount!

£194 classic policy, agreed value of £2000 (shut up, it is worth that much! , thank you!) milage: 5k max, mods declared. With 1 other driver on it too. Not bad me thinks.

Taking the beast to the welding man tomorrow. :(

Well the latest.

I took the mini on public roads for the first time in almost a year! (I didn't realise it was quite that long, poor neglected mini)

Filled up with fuel then onto the dual carriage way. Was going along nicely then started to hear a loud banging noise, which go louder and louder!!!

Oh no i thought and pulled off into a carpark at the next rounderbout.

Had a look to see if the exhaust was banging but looked sucure.....

Can anyone guess what it was....?

I then noticed that both rear wheels we only on by 1 or 2 bolts that were finger tight, AGHGHGHGHG, silly Charlie had forgotten to do the rear wheels up!!!!

Ah well, i found it funny (Nervous laughter me thinks).

The carried on the drive without incident.

Dropped off the min at the welders and off I went all happy....

Until I got a call later from the welder and he'd found more rust, so quote has almost doubled, still cheaper than I expected though, so its now being made all solid again :D

Charlie forgot to mention the reason WHY his car fell apart. He and i had a little race in 2006 at Dragwars. Charlie almost beat me, but didnt quite manage.
I must add that only 0.4 of a second was between us, it was by far the best race ive ever had, and im sure charlie will agree to that.

Anyway, charlie i cant believe you let it get that bad!! You only have 16 days left mate, so get cracking!

Well the story continues....

Went to pick the mini up the other day. Got to the garage where they were welding it and looked at their work.

Wow, It was amazingly neat and better than I expected. Brilliant :(

So paid the chappy and he jusmmped in the mini to get it going and........it flooded.

Turned out the choke was stuck on.

So quick as a flash he wipped the spark plugs off (well appart from one that was really stiff - the one I couldn't get out a week before, he he) and cleaned them off, popped them back in and we were set.

Mini started straight away and off I drove home.....

Until I was about 10 minutes from home and realised the engine temp was rocketing! Ahhh!!

Steam was coming into the cabin and it didnt look good, so I pulled over opened the bonnet and imediately saw the problem:

Posted Image

Ahghgh :dontgetit:

So a quick phone call to BristolMiniMad (Cheers Ryan, 1 pint owed!) and he drove out to take me to Halfords and fit a new fan belt, well until he realised I had no road tax, so we decided to tow me home. Dignified :o

Posted Image

Well the tow rope was a bit on the short side so I had to be very careful but we made it back to mine ok.

Oh and I re-filled the rad...almost a litre of water! :)
