because he's 17. its always stupidly high when you insure your first car. best bet is if your 18 soon, try and wait, the quote can go down a few 100.

Ive stated I wanted the insurance next Tuesday (when I'm 18).
So, thats the cheapest for an 18 yr old.

try to haggle the price too, not sure if it works so well with an 18y/o though.

im with the AA for my everyday car, its up for renewal in 2 weeks and they sent a stupid quote through, so i clled them and got £45 off the price.
next was AA breakdown cover, £96, so i called them too, told them tescos are doing same cover for £56 (thanks to who ever it was on here for the link) within 2 mins he said "oh we can match that", just goes to show, never take the first price they come up with.

Good advice on haggling. I'd not be the least bit surprised if you took out breakdown cover with Tescos and AA van turned up if you did break down!

Not sure I get the NCD issue, presumably having evidence of being insured for a year without claiming would get you a discount with a different policy if not with the one you had for that year?

Can you wangle any special Brucie Bonus prices then LilRipper? Mine happens to be up for renewal >_<

We get 15% off with HIC anyway! :ermm:

If its standard try Admiral or Elephant, myself and all my mates have found them to be cheapest general insurers for a while now.

I believe HIC will only insure 19+.

At the minuet, directline are NOT charging new customers when you pay monthly, also you get your own no claims as a named driver.

I had a quote online yestarday, in my dads name, me as the named driver, and it was £160 (anually) comprehensive, so £13 or so a month. (haven't bought it yet, i should phone up to make sure if thats correct)

That was for a 1988 mini with 998 engine, and i'm only 18.

(in my name it was £1200 which is still cheaper than everyone else i have tryed, closest competitor was tesco.)
