Right Millie failed the MOT on a number of things, some I'll be fixing, got someone to sort out the welding and rear subframe for me however I also need to sort out the emissions, she's burning oil pretty badly (smokes like a chimney on startup and then doesnt smoke much at all whilst running) so I'm thinking new valve seats and valves and possibly the piston rings have gone??
I'm not to great on engines so where's best in the Bournemouth/Weymouth area to take her to be sorted out? I've got this week to sort the engine and week after for Dave to fit the new subframe as I'm trying to get her ready for the BH2N run!
For any engine savvy people hopefully the results below can point u in the direction of what work might be needing to be done?
Emissions results
She passed at natural idle (just)
Co - 0.739 (max 0.750)
1st Fast idle 2687rmp:
CO - 1.350 (max 0.300 %vol) FAIL
HC - 112 (max 200ppm vol) PASS
Lambda - 0.960 (min limit 0.950, max limit 1.9090) PASS
2nd Fast idle at 2659rmp:
CO - 7.826 (max should be 0.300 %vol) FAIL
HC - 437 (max should be 200ppm vol) FAIL
Lambda - 0.739 (min limit 0.950, max limit 1.9090) FAIL

The cheap and fastest way would be to change your valve stem oil seals
and if you have a Mr haynes with you, it would,nt take long.

Yep I doubt it's the valves themselves or the valve seats for that matter, Just get some New valve stem seals and see what happens then.
If the piston rings have gone,... then you're likely to be looking at a Full rebore, Needing new pistons and Rings, You might be lucky and get away with a hone.
But to be honest mate if you've blown a Piston ring... you'd know about it pretty quick.
Get a Haynes Manual, A valve spring compressor and some feeler guages,... Get the head off,.. Decoke/gunge (if you're burning oil... expect it to be messy in there) Clean the head up with a Wire cup on a drill (use it lightly until the surface is clean and shiny), Lap the valves in With fine Lapping paste, Put the new stem seals around the valves. New headgasket,.... Jobs a good one. If it's till running like a bag of spanners,... then it's probably piston rings and time for a Second hand engine or a re-con of your current one.

Cheers retro for that info, I do have a haynes manual but unfortuantely no where to work at the moment except my driveway and I'm also doing 12 hour shifts a day at work so simply dont have the time to do the work myself, need to find a reliable mini mechanic round here that can do the work you described for me! Is there anyone like that on here?
EDIT: Thanks for the link!!
