Ok, question for you

What does WD40 stand for?

there are two stories, both of them are allegedly true.

Story 1 - War Department 1940 (they needed something to stop the shells from rusting when stored outside)

Story 2 - Water Displacement version 40 . Guy trying to invent water displacement mixture, successful on version 40

can anybody shed some light?

I was told it was story 2, sounds more likely too.
