Hi does anyone know how to fit a handbrake onto the front hubs of a mini ? (with disks)
i thought maybe a GTM or other mini engined mid mounted kit car may have them
I am planning a trike with a mini engine in the backend

I think I'veheard mention of granada calipers being used... but cannot confirm...

But what I was thinking as an alternative... use a set of metro 4 pots, it has two independant circuits so you could have one set of pots as normal braking and the other pair for a hydralic handbrake ??

Yeah, Citroen BX, Subaru MV pickup thing, gawd, what else is there? Or something like a 106 GTi rear caliper? Needs to be something with a fairly small diameter wheel really.

Hang on, i get it now, these are going to be used on the rear so it wont matter which calipers you use anyway as long as its hydro mechanical caliper.

GW, you may well find that a hydraulic handbrake should not pass an MOT irespective if its a different circuit, construction and use states mechanical.

What about these little puppies

Looked good untill i read "minimum wheel size 14 inch" , there are loads of mini kitcars running a front subframe in the rear , someone must have done it by now ! , i will have a good look at MITP

Old Saab 900's run front Handbrake with Discs, may be able to get something that fits under 13's.

You'd probably have to adapt the hubs to fit though.

Sierra, Granada, MGF calipers could all be made to fit but why not start with a MG TF rear subframe

Sierra rear calipers fit under 13" wheels,I used these on a MK1 Cortina for a rear disc conversion i did many years ago.

You can do this but as somebody else has stated you have to have a mechanical method as well to pass both SVA & MOT. Lots of rally cars have hydraulic rear brakes & the usual thing is to have a pushbike cable going from the hydraulic lever to each set of brake pads. Everybody knows they don't do anything but most MOT testers will pass them as when they put on the handbrake they get fantastic results. There is a guy running a kitcar like mine with discs on the back he has used Seirra calipers, Metro discs & made up some plates to mount them onto the hub. I'm waiting for winter & then this is one of the mods I intend to do, I have a set of calipers off a Saxo VTR just looking out for a set of hubs to start playing. Alternatively you can do what we do on the Funbuggies & modify the rear drum backplates to mount on front drum hubs to get handbrakes on them. There will be half a dozen Funbuggies there on Sunday if you want to come have a look.

Edit:- There being MITP Doh! I knew what I was talking about

Met a guy with a gtm who was using rover calipers on a metro set up, off a 200 I think.

GTM's usually have a "home-made" secondary mechanical caliper.

That's going to be the way forward with the Funbuggies once it has been updated to accept the K series engine. But not sure if you can do it to an A series easily.
